The Impact of Malik Nabers
Malik Nabers, the current rookie star for the New York Football Giants, is out. After last weekend's game against the Cowboys, he suffered a concussion after catching a pass from Daniel Jones. He fell mask first into the sidelines after making the catch. That said, it took him a good few minutes to get him off the field and into the blue tent for evaluation, where they declared that he was out. He was not feeling himself after the game. Brian Burns had even checked in, but Nabers told him no in the locker room.
He is still in the early stages of the concussion protocol. Per the medical staff and head coach Brian Daboll, he has not suited up and participated in any practices this week. His absence will likely be felt in this weekend's game against the Seahawks, potentially impacting New York's performance. There is only so much else to work with on the team, and the offensive line depends greatly on Nabers.
Nabers was the Giants' up-and-coming rookie player. He scored multiple touchdowns in his first few games with the team. He also earned the trust of coach Daboll and Jones on the field. Nabers was catching passes all over the place from Jones. He broke records as a brand-new rookie before his injury.
The Giants will also need to catch up on his speed. The Seahawks have people who are just as quick as Nabers; however, with him out, this may hurt the Giants even more. While the Giants are still busy dealing with the hardship of moving the ball up the field, Nabers was already running and waiting for the ball to come to him. Nabers was the one who got the ball in his hands the most.
Jones will have to turn to his other wide receivers on the team. Each one has been unable to get the ball up the field the way the Giants need to. The only other person Jones can trust is Devin Singletary. For the most part, he has been able to do what Nabers can do. The Giants may also have to turn to him for the next few games until Nabers returns. The Giants will likely suffer significantly without Nabers this coming weekend. They hope to have him return to their games in the next two weeks, if not sooner. He has had a lot of time to rest, and hopefully, he will come off of the protocol to return running on the field and scoring for the Giants, a desperation they need for this season.
