The Los Angeles Dodgers Are Two Games Away from a World Series Championship

MLB

The Los Angeles Dodgers are two games away from winning the 2024 World Series Championship. After a 4-2 victory at home, the Dodgers are heading to Yankee territory to try and close out the series in either Game Four or Five. There have been a few similarities between these two teams since the last time they were in the World Series, however, with Freddie Freeman looking like the modern Kirk Gibson in Game One, and the bullpen getting the job done in Game Two, the Dodgers could walk out of this series making the Yankees regret their play. We’ll see who gets the upper hand in Game Three on Monday.

Dodgers centerfielder Tommy Edman hit a solo home run to left fielder during the bottom of the second inning off of Yankees starter Carlos Rodón. A half inning later, Yankees right fielder Juan Soto cranked a solo shot to right field tying the game up at one run apiece. The game would take a complete turn in the top of the third when Dodgers left fielder Teoscar Hernández crushed a two-run home run to right-center field. Just a batter later, Freeman knocked a solo shot to right-center field, making it a 4-1 ball game. Shohei Ohtani is believed to have popped his shoulder out while trying to steal second base a few innings later during the bottom of the seventh. Ultimately, he was called out and injured himself on the play. At the top of the ninth, Yankees designated hitter Giancarlo Stanton hit an RBI single to make it a 4-2 game. The bases would become loaded for New York, but ultimately, they could not pull off the comeback victory.

Los Angeles’ starter Yoshinobu Yamamoto pitched six and one-third innings, allowing just one run on one hit which was Soto’s home run with two walks while striking out four batters. Edman, Hernández, and Mookie Betts were the only Dodgers that recorded multiple hits. Rodón pitched three and one-third innings allowing four runs on six hits while striking out three in the loss. Soto was the only Yankee to have a multi-hit game.
