Three Players the Mets Need to Bring Back
The New York Mets were one of the most exciting teams to watch this season despite their season-ending short with the Los Angeles Dodgers beating them in six games and then going on to win the World Series. The Mets had comprised a team that had individuals stepping up in times of need, rather than having a bunch of superstars. Sure, Francisco Lindor was a true leader for this team, but everyone played their part at one point or another to ensure the fight went on. Many different rally cries paved the way to shape this season for the Mets’ Wild Card run. It will be interesting to see how this roster is formed with all the free agents set to hit the market, but these guys should be maintained on their roster in 2025.
1. Pete Alonso
A guy who is meant to be a Met for life. A guy that bears the blue and orange with pride. Pete Alonso is a cornerstone for this franchise at this point in time and should be the first priority to bring back in this upcoming offseason. While his numbers this year weren’t as inflated as they normally are, Alonso exemplified his pride and passion for this team when he had late-game heroics against the Brewers, lifting a three-run homer over the right-field wall with two outs and a full count against him to eventually advance the Mets on to the National League conference series. While he might be demanding a good sum of money, Alonso needs to be back on this New York Mets roster.
2. Sean Manaea
If there is any guy that turned heads around the league this year, it was Sean Manaea. Going from a guy who was used in long relief to a starter who could go seven scoreless with eight or more strikeouts, Manaea had an oncoming throughout this season. Stepping up in times of need with the Mets lacking rotation success, he was the true ace of the pitching staff and allowed them to have an anchor in the rotation. Manaea definitely proved he deserved a hefty contract; it’s a matter of fact whether Steve Cohen will give it to him.
3. Jesse Winker
More of a guy to provide swagger and give this team a morale boost, Jesse Winker was a great trade deadline acquisition. His defense is much lackluster, but he proved to serve the designated hitter role pretty well when provided with the opportunity. If Winker can improve his numbers against left-handed pitching, this should be a no-brainer. The Mets could rely on Winker to serve the designated hitter role in this upcoming 2025 season as a guy who can provide some pop in the middle of the lineup.
