Three-Time Pro Bowl Safety Signs with the Titans

NFL

Ahead of free agency getting underway, the Seattle Seahawks decided to release safety Jamal Adams on March 5th to get under the 2024 salary cap. Adams, a First-Team All-Pro in 2019, was scheduled to make $16.5 million non-guaranteed in 2024 and was set to count $26.9 million against the salary cap. Since being traded from the Jets to the Seahawks in 2020, the three-time Pro Bowl safety has struggled the past few seasons to stay healthy, as Adams has dealt with a torn labrum, quad tendon, groin strain, and concussion over the course of the last three seasons in Seattle. With his limited availability, diminished performance, and a high salary, Adams' days in Seattle were numbered as the 2023-24 season came to an end. Now, Adams will have the opportunity to get a fresh start next season as it has been announced by ESPN’s NFL Insider Adam Schefter, that the Tennessee Titans have agreed to terms with Adams on a one-year contract.

Adams, 28, played three college seasons at LSU from 2014-16 after being named a five-star recruit coming out of high school. With the Tigers, Adams recorded 209 total tackles, 18 tackles for loss, two sacks, five interceptions and two forced fumbles. At LSU, Adams was named to the Second-Team All-SEC in 2015 and All-SEC First-Team in his final collegiate season. After deciding to forgo his senior season, Adams would decide to declare for the 2017 NFL Draft, where the New York Jets would draft the former Tigers’ safety in the first round with the sixth overall pick. The seven-year starter would spend his first three seasons in the league with the Jets, where he grew into a top-tier NFL safety. With the Jets, Adams recorded 273 total tackles, 210 solo tackles, 12 sacks, six forced fumbles, two interceptions and 25 passes defended. After not being able to come to a long-term contract agreement with the Jets, Adams would be traded to the Seahawks in the 2020 offseason.

Last season, Adams’ on-field availability and production would be limited for a third straight season as he would miss eight games. In nine games last season, Adams would tally 48 total tackles, 34 solo tackles, and two passes defended. In a Week 12 matchup against the Cowboys, Adams would have his best game of the season, where he recorded 10 total tackles, seven solo tackles, and three assisted tackles. After signing with the Titans, Adams will aim to return to his once All-Pro safety form next season in Tennessee.
