Top 10 NFL Quarterbacks After Six Weeks
We are now one-third of the way through the NFL season, and there have been some tremendous quarterback performances thus far. We have seen historic rookie performances, comeback stories, and many potential MVPs. Narrowing down the list of quarterbacks to a top 10 wasn’t easy as there were certainly some deserving names that got snubbed. That just goes to show the number of quality starters there are in the current state of the league, and NFL football is a better product when there are a multitude of superstars throwing the football.
The Top Three: Joe Burrow, Josh Allen, Lamar Jackson
While the Bengals record might not show it just yet, Joe Burrow has quietly put together his best start to a season ever through six weeks. Burrow currently has 1,672 total yards to go along with 13 total touchdowns, while only throwing two interceptions. Josh Allen has led the Bills to a 4-2 record with a lackluster group of receivers through the first third of their season. Allen has amounted to 1,338 total yards and 13 total touchdowns while also not having a single turnover. He is likely the league MVP if the season ended today and the Bills just acquired wide receiver Amari Cooper today, so expect for his level of play to stay the same or increase even. Lastly, Lamar Jackson, who has been unleashed with the Ravens’ acquisition of Derrick Henry, as defenders are forced to respect the power run game which opens up the outside run and pass game for Lamar. He has accumulated 1,932 total yards and 12 total touchdowns that are paired with only two interceptions. Not to mention, the Ravens have won four straight games to put them in first in the AFC North through six weeks.
Second Tier: C.J. Stroud, Jayden Daniels, Baker Mayfield, Sam Darnold
C.J. Stroud has certainly avoided a sophomore slump, at least through this point in the season. The addition of Stefon Diggs has certainly been helpful, but Stroud is probably the biggest factor in the Texans’ 5-1 record. Stroud has thrown for 1,577 yards and already has double-digit passing touchdowns. Jayden Daniels is putting together one of the most impressive rookie campaigns of all time. Daniels has 1,726 total yards to go along with 10 total touchdowns, plus he is currently leading the league in completion percentage and doing all of this as a rookie. Baker Mayfield has led the Buccaneers to a 4-2 record while leading the league with 15 passing touchdowns through six games. The Bucs look like they will be in prime contention for a playoff spot yet again, and Mayfield deserves a lot of credit for that. Sam Darnold is the only quarterback to be mentioned so far that is still undefeated and he has the stats to back it up. Darnold has 1,172 total yards and 11 passing touchdowns through his five games played in the 2024-25 season so far. Darnold has played a major role in the Minnesota Vikings’ 5-0 start to the season.
Third Tier: Jared Goff, Patrick Mahomes, Justin Fields
Jared Goff has been consistent all season long and has the Lions set up for a return to the playoffs. Through six games, Goff has compiled over 1,300 passing yards, he played an entire game without an incompletion and even got a receiving touchdown. Patrick Mahomes doesn’t have the best counting stats at this point in the season but he has led the Chiefs to an undefeated record while dealing with the loss of their number one wide receiver and their starting running back. It is hard to keep the reigning Super Bowl MVP out of the top 10 when his team is still performing so well through so much adversity. Lastly, Justin Fields has completely changed his reputation since joining the Pittsburgh Steelers. Fields wasn’t even supposed to be the team’s starter heading into the season, but a nagging injury has caused Russell Wilson to miss the first six weeks. Fields stepped up to the plate, leading the Steelers to a 4-2 record while gaining 1,337 total yards, 10 total touchdowns, and only turning the ball over once. Needless to say, quarterback play has been at an extremely high level this season.
