Top Three Moments from Eagles vs. Chiefs Super Bowl 57 Clash
Two years later, they meet again. The Philadelphia Eagles take on the Kansas City Chiefs in an attempt to deny them the first ever three-peat. This time around, there are new faces for the Eagles, including All-Pros Saquon Barkley and Zack Baun. Philadelphia has the best running game in the league. Kansas City has the second-best scoring defense in the league. It’s a battle of strength on strength in the rematch. Let’s look at the top three moments from the first encounter.
1. Deep Touchdown to A.J. Brown
On the first play of the second quarter, Jalen Hurts launched a 45-yard touchdown to A.J. Brown. It was a deep-go route thrown perfectly to Brown in double coverage. Hurts had great protection as he stepped into the throw. Hurts got the best of All-Pro cornerback Trent McDuffie on that play. Hurts had one of the best offensive lines in football that year. With a few new starters this year, the Eagles still have one of the best pass protections in football. Barkley is also a terrific blocker when he picks up a blitzing linebacker.
2. Kadarius Toney Touchdown Gives the Chiefs the Lead
Early in the fourth quarter, Kadarius Toney scored a touchdown to give the Chiefs the go-ahead lead. He acted like he was going to motion before sprinting outside to get open for a five-yard touchdown. The Eagles’ secondary could not get a man on Toney before the snap. It was the second of three straight Chiefs drives that resulted in touchdowns. It was a genius play design by Andy Reid; he knew that the Eagles were not going to be able to make the adjustments in time. Reid dialed up a play that was executed to perfection, and the Eagles had no answer.
3. Mahomes Scrambles in Clutch Time
With the game tied up in the fourth quarter, Patrick Mahomes took off from the Eagles’ 45-yard line and picked up 24 yards. It put the Chiefs in field goal range and helped set up the game-clinching field goal. The Eagles lost their discipline in their pass rush lanes, and it allowed Mahomes to get a big chunk of yards. Mahomes went 24 yards untouched before getting caught from behind. The Eagles’ defense could not get a stop in the second half. Kansas City scored on all three second-half drives. It was offensive firepower seen like no other in one half of a Super Bowl. It will be round two today on FOX, between the Eagles and Chiefs at 6:30 p.m. EST, this time with many new faces for the Eagles.
