Two-Time World Series Winner Signs with the Rangers
Nathan Eovaldi has reached a contract agreement with the Texas Rangers. The deal is worth a reported $75 million over three years. Eovaldi has been a quality big-league arm for many years and will provide the Rangers with many steady innings. Signing Eovaldi may also be a good omen for the Rangers as Eovaldi has won World Series titles with each of the last two teams that he’s played for, the Red Sox in 2018 and the Rangers in 2023.
Debuting early at age 21 with the Dodgers in 2011, Eovaldi has 13 years of experience under his belt and a 91-81 career record over 275 starts. Eovaldi will be 35 years old before Opening Day next season, however, he still has plenty to offer the Rangers. The former two-time All-Star finished 12-8 through 29 starts in 2024, marking another solid season. With 166 strikeouts, Eovaldi posted the second-highest strikeout total in his career, racking up 195 in 2021. Two years removed from his last All-Star appearance and four years removed from a fourth-place finish in the American League Cy Young Award voting, there is still plenty left in the tank for Eovaldi.
What makes this an even better pickup for the Rangers is Eovaldi’s tremendous postseason record. In 17 career postseason appearances, Eovaldi is 9-3 with a 3.05 earned run average. During the Rangers World Series title run in 2023, Eovaldi was 5-0 with a 2.95 earned run average in six starts. These numbers prove that Eovaldi can not only produce serviceable numbers while racking up innings in the regular season but also that he can be relied upon in high-leverage postseason games. This is just what the Rangers need, as they will hope for Eovaldi to aid them in making a deep playoff run once again.
