UConn Beats Illinois after a 30-0 Run
The Elite Eight matchup in the East started off looking like it was going to be a classic with both teams trading buckets, but as predicted, Donavan Klingman dominated every minute he was in the game. Klingman is over seven feet tall and has been a force for the Huskies all season, this game however was one of his best. When Klingman was on the floor, UConn was +28 as his work in the paint made a huge impact, contributing 22 points, 10 rebounds, and five blocks.
The game in the first half was tied 23-23 making it seem like UConn had finally found their match. Yet right after that UConn did the unthinkable. They would go on a 30-0 run shattering tournament records. Suddenly Illinois season was now over. UConn kicked into another gear that makes it seem like they will win the national championship with ease. For Illinois, it was overall a very disappointing performance as only one player was able to score in double digits. After a strong start to the tournament, they will now have to reset and figure out what offseason moves will get them further in the tournament next year.
UConn will now play Alabama in the Final Four next week. Alabama is coming off an incredible shooting performance against Clemson where star player Mark Sears made seven threes. However, with this next matchup, there is a major issue as Alabama lacks a true center and depth at the position. Alabama Forward Nick Pringle who is four inches shorter will be faced with the challenge of guarding Klingman which will be a key matchup. Once again, the big men will decide who's able to advance to the National Championship. UConn comes in at 11.5-point favorites which is one of the biggest favorites in the Final Four in recent memory.
