U.S. President’s Cup Preview

The 2024 President’s Cup, the professional golf tournament between some of the best in the men’s game from the United States and the International, excluding Europe, Team, will be played in Montreal in Quebec, Canada, at the Royal Montreal Golf Club. The U.S. comes in with 12 wins, one loss, and one tie all-time record, including winning the last ten straight. They will be led by captain Jim Furyk, who also captained the Ryder Cup team in 2018. The U.S. will be coming in as the heavy favorites yet again, boasting the top two players in the Official World Golf Rankings and a total of 12 players ranked in the top 25. Meet Team U.S.A. 

Automatically Qualified:

Scottie Scheffler

Scottie Scheffler comes in as the number one ranked player in the world with eight wins, including one major, an Olympic Gold Medal, and the FedEx Cup this year. He is the frontrunner for Player of the Year for 2024 and led the U.S. in President Cup points to automatically qualify. Scottie is currently ranked number one in total strokes gained, strokes gained tee to green, and greens in regulation percentage. He went 0-3-1 in the 2022 President’s Cup for 0.5 total points. This will be Scottie Scheffler’s second appearance in the event.

Xander Schauffele

Xander Schauffele is the number two ranked player in the world with two wins in 2024, both of which were majors, the PGA Championship and The Open Championship, the first two of his career. He finished second in President’s Cup points to automatically qualify and likely gives Scottie his biggest challenge for Player of the Year accolades. Xander is ranked second in total strokes gained, second tee to green, and first in scrambling this year. He went 3-1-0 in the 2022 event for three points. This will be Xander Schauffele’s third President’s Cup appearance.

Collin Morikawa

Collin Morikawa is currently ranked fourth in the official world golf rankings with no wins, eight top tens, and two runner-ups this year. He was third in President’s Cup points to automatically qualify and finished second in the FedEx Cup. Collin is ranked third in driving accuracy, fifth in total strokes gained, and first in putts per round. He went 2-1-0 in the 2022 President’s Cup for a total of two points. This will be Collin Morikawa’s second appearance in the President’s Cup.

Wyndham Clark

Wyndham Clark is the sixth-ranked player in the world with one win, eight top tens, and two runner-ups this season. He was fourth in President’s Cup points to automatically qualify and finished eighth in the FedEx Cup. Wyndham is ranked sixth in driving distance, first in approaches from 75-100 yards, and first in approaches from inside 100 yards. This will be Wyndham Clark’s first President’s Cup appearance.

Patrick Cantlay

Patrick Cantlay is the ninth-ranked player in the world with no wins and four top tens in 2024. He finished fifth in President’s Cup points to automatically qualify and finished 17th in the FedEx Cup. Patrick is ranked second in par five scoring average, fifth in approaches from 250-257 yards, and 11th in approaches from 100-125 yards. He went 3-1-0 in the 2022 event for three points. This will be Patrick Cantlay’s third President’s Cup appearance.

Sahith Theegala

Sahith Theegala is currently the 12th-ranked player in the world with no wins, two runner-ups, and eight top tens this year. He finished sixth in President’s Cup points to automatically qualify and finished third in the FedEx Cup. Sahith is ranked 15th in total strokes gained, 15th in approaches from 250-275 yards, and 16th in scrambling from 20-30 yards. This will be Sahith Theegala’s first President’s Cup appearance.

Keegan Bradley

Keegan Bradley is the 13th-ranked player in the world with one win, two runner-ups, and three top tens in 2024. He finished 10th in President’s Cup points and made the team via Captain’s Pick. Keegan is ranked third in total driving efficiency, third in approaches from 150-175 yards, and third in approaches from 75-100 yards. This will be Keegan Bradley’s second appearance in the President’s Cup, with a 2-2-1 career record, but was not on the 2022 team.

Sam Burns

Sam Burns is currently the 17th-ranked player in the world with no wins, one runner-up, and eight top tens this season. He finished seventh in President’s Cup points and made the team via Captain’s Pick. Sam is ranked 13th in total strokes gained, 16th in strokes gained in putting, and second in putting average. He went 0-3-2 in the 2022 President’s Cup for a point. This will be Sam Burns’ second appearance in the event.

Tony Finau

Tony Finau is the 21st-ranked player in the world with no wins, one runner-up, and five top tens in the 2024 season. He finished eighth in President’s Cup points and made the team via Captain’s Pick. Tony is ranked 10th in strokes gained total, fifth in strokes gained tee to green, and second in strokes gained in approach. He went 3-1-0 for three points in the 2022 event. This will be Tony Finau’s third appearance in the President’s Cup.

Brian Harman

Brian Harman is currently the 19th-ranked player in the world with no wins, one runner-up, and three top tens this year. He finished 11th in President’s Cup points and made the team via Captain’s Pick. Brian is ranked eighth in total diving efficiency, 13th in approaches from 150-175 yards, and 26th in strokes gained total. This will be Brian Harman’s first appearance in the President's Cup.

Russell Henly

Russell Henley is the 15th-ranked player in the world, with no wins, no runner-ups, and seven top tens in 2024. He finished ninth in President’s Cup points and made the team via Captain’s Pick. Russell is ranked 16th in total strokes gained, 19th in strokes gained around the green, and ninth in driving accuracy percentage. This will be Russell Henley’s first appearance in the President’s Cup.

Max Homa

Max Homa is the 24th-ranked player in the world with no wins, no runner-ups, and three top tens this year. He finished 12th in President’s Cup points and made the team via Captain’s Pick. Max is ranked 13th in approaches from 50-125 yards, ninth in approaches from 75-100 yards, and 10th in approaches from inside 100 yards. He went 4-0-0 for four points in the 2022 President’s Cup. This will be Max Homa’s second appearance in the event.
