U.S. Solheim Cup Team Preview

The 2024 Solheim Cup, the professional golf tournament between the best in the women’s game from the United States and Europe, will be played in Gainesville, VA at the Robert Trent Jones Golf Club. The U.S. Team comes in with a 10-8 all-time record but has lost the last three against Europe. They will be led by Captain Stacy Lewis, who was also the captain in 2023. The U.S. will be coming in as the heavy favorites yet again, boasting the top two players in the Rolex World Rankings, and a total of six players ranked in the top 25. Meet Team U.S.A.

Automatically Qualified:

Nelly Korda:

Nelly Korda comes in as the number-one ranked player in the world with six wins, including one major, this season. She was named Rolex Player of the Year for 2024 and led the U.S. in Solheim Cup points to automatically qualify. Nelly is currently ranked number one in scoring average per round,  strokes gained, and birdies or better percentage. She went 2-2-0 in the 2023 Solheim Cup for 2 points total. This will be Nelly Korda’s fourth appearance. 

Lilia Vu:

Lilia Vu is the number two ranked player in the world with one win and four top 10 finishes in the year. She was second in Solheim Cup points to automatically qualify and sixth in the Rolex Player of the Year points. Lilia is ranked number one in scrambling and par four scoring average. She did have some back issues earlier this year but bounced back into form in her return later on. She was 1-3-0 in the 2023 Solheim Cup for one point. This will be Lilia Vu’s second appearance.

Lauren Coughlin:

Lauren Coughlin is the 15th-ranked player in the world with two wins, her first two career wins, during the 2024 season. She came in third in Solheim Cup points to automatically qualify and fourth in the Rolex Player of the Year points. Lauren is currently ranked number one in birdies and sub-par holes and ranked third in strokes gained. This will be Lauren Coughlin’s first appearance in the Solheim Cup.

Ally Ewing:

Ally Ewing is currently the 18th-ranked player in the world with six top 10s and no wins in 2024. She was fourth in Solheim Cup points to automatically qualify and 12th in Rolex Player of the Year points. Ally is currently ranked second in par three scoring average and sixth in sand saves. She was 1-3-0 in the 2023 Solheim Cup for one point. This will be Ally Ewing’s fourth appearance.

Allisen Corpuz:

Allisen Corpuz is the 28th-ranked player in the world with three top 10s and no wins this year. She was fifth in Solheim Cup points to automatically qualify and 45th in Rolex Player of the Year points. Allisen is currently ranked second in driver accuracy and seventh in subpar rounds. She was 2-1-1 in the 2023 Solheim Cup for 2.5 points. This will be Allisen Corpuz’s second appearance in the Solheim Cup.

Megan Khang:

Megan Khang is the 21st-ranked player in the world with three top 10s and no wins in 2024. She was sixth in Solheim Cup points to automatically qualify and 26th in Rolex Player of the Year points. Megan is ranked second in strokes gained tee to green, fourth in strokes gained approach to green, and fourth in driver accuracy. She was 3-0-1 in the 2023 Solheim Cup for 3.5 points. This will be Megan Khang’s fourth appearance.

Andrea Lee:

Andrea Lee is currently the 45th-ranked player in the world with no wins and five top 10s in 2024. She was seventh in Solheim Cup points to automatically qualify and 19th in Rolex Player of the Year points. Andrea is ranked fourth in putts per green in regulation and ninth in birdies. She went 1-2-1 for 1.5 points in the 2023 Solheim Cup. This will be Andrea Lee’s second Solheim Cup appearance.

Rose Zhang:

Rose Zhang is the ninth-ranked player in the world with one win and four top 10s in 2024. She was ninth in Solheim Cup points and automatically qualified due to her Rolex world ranking. She finished 13th in Rolex Player of the Year points. Rose ranked sixth in bogey avoidance and seventh in par four scoring average. She went 0-2-1 in the 2023 Solheim Cup for .5 points. This will be Rose Zhang’s second Solheim Cup appearance.

Alison Lee:

Alison Lee is the 27th-ranked player in the world with four top 10s and no wins this year. She was 10th in Solheim Cup points and automatically qualified due to her Rolex world ranking. She finished 41st in Rolex Player of the Year points. Alison currently ranks second in eagles, eighth in strokes gained tee to green, and 12th in par five scoring average. She was not on the 2023 U.S. Solheim Cup team but went 1-3-0 for one point in 2015. This will be Alison Lee’s second appearance.

Jennifer Kupcho:

Jennifer Kupcho is the 49th-ranked player in the world with five top 10s and no wins in 2024. She finished 12th in Solheim Cup points and made the team via Captain’s Pick. She finished 33rd in Rolex Player of the Year points. Jennifer ranks second, tied with Alison, in eagles, 10th in par five scoring average, and first in cuts made. She went 0-2-1 in the 2023 Solheim Cup for .5 points. This will be Jennifer Kupcho’s third appearance.

Sarah Schmelzel:

Sarah Schmelzel is currently the 59th-ranked player in the world with no wins and seven top 10s in 2024. She was 11th in Solheim Cup points and made the team via Captain’s Pick. She finished 29th in Rolex Player of the Year points. Sarah ranks 11th in bogey avoidance, 11th in par four scoring average, and 15th in ball striking. This will be Sarah Schmelzel’s first Solheim Cup appearance.

Lexi Thompson:

Lexi Thompson is ranked as the 41st-ranked player in the world with four top 10s and no wins this year. She was 14th in Solheim Cup points and made the team via Captain’s Pick in what will likely be her final appearance in the tournament after announcing her retirement earlier this year. She finished 31st in Rolex Player of the Year points. Lexi also ranks second in eagles made, second in par three scoring average, and fifth in greens in regulation from the fairway. She went 3-1-0 in the 2023 Solheim Cup for three points. This will be Lexi Thompson’s seventh Solheim Cup appearance.
