What Does the Future Look Like for The Atlanta Braves?

MLB

The Atlanta Braves have had a big change in the past week, their third baseman Austin Riley leaves for IL, and soon after Tigers’ Gio Urshela stands up as their newly signed infielder. This is Gio’s seventh team over his career of nine years. From the looks of it, he has a lot to make up for. Riley was one of their top three hitters: leaving the team with an average of .256 and 109 hits in the season. Having one of the best overall batting averages throughout the team, leaving can negatively hurt their offensive plays.

That being said, his signing is said to be a saving grace for the Braves, as their team is said to be injury-ridden, and hopes he can bring some much-needed energy and promise to the team. “I'm really excited about this, I'm happy to be here to help this team with their postseason run,” said Urshela. His veteran experience can help bring home those runs for the remainder of the season. However, Gio’s best season was with the Yankees in the 2019 season, where he batted an average of .314. His stats have not been the best of his abilities, and we hope for the rest of this season he can turn it around.

This Sunday he leaves the Tigers with an average of .241, leaving him to be in the average range of Atlanta’s batters. The Braves can go either way by signing Urshela to their team. Unfortunately, with so many others gone and injured, this just might hurt them on the offensive. He plans to use this postseason, to prove his worth and work on being a great replacement for Riley. This season has been rough for the Braves, as they deal with injury and loss.

On the fan front, some are happy to see that even though they lost a great one, Urshela is next up. Since his time with the Detroit Tigers, his manager has been grateful. A.J. Hinch spoke of how he has impacted their team “It certainly impacts our team because he does a lot of things well, He's a nice player. He can do things on defense. He's handled the bat very well. ... We have the next five or six weeks to sort out how it impacts the rest of the roster.” Maybe this time will be one of his best seasons, Gio Urshela just might end up saving the Braves.
