What Klayton Adams and Matt Eberflus Will Bring to the Cowboys
With the signing of Brian Schottenheimer as head coach of the Dallas Cowboys, he was in full charge of the coaching staff that would be coming in with him. His two key acquisitions were offensive line coach from the Arizona Cardinals, Klayton Adams, and former coach of the Chicago Bears, Matt Eberflus, for defensive coordinator. Both coaches have had success on their respective sides of the ball throughout their careers. With huge expectations heading into this season, what will they try to bring to Dallas?
Adams
Klayton Adams spent his past two seasons in Arizona as the offensive line coach. He notably made the Cardinals the third-best run team the past two seasons, only behind the Baltimore Ravens and the Philadelphia Eagles. Adams will not be calling plays in Dallas, but his work with the offense will be essential for Schottenheimer. He will be in charge of the offensive line, helping the new regime of linemen for the Cowboys. Adams will essentially play the role of Schottenheimer last season. He will be building connections with the offense, making sure everyone, coach and player, is on the same page. With Schottenheimer looking to change up the offense, the addition of Adams should help the team smoothly transition.
Eberflus
Matt Eberflus was previously head coach of the Chicago Bears, and despite the narrative, he carried a formidable defense in Chicago. In his introductory interview, he made it clear what his intentions were with this Dallas defense. The goal is to be able to take the ball away, and with what he believes to be two of the best corners in the NFL, Trevon Diggs and DaRon Bland, turnovers should be easier. Eberflus also noted in his interview the importance of the special talent Micah Parsons is. Being able to max out his capabilities is what will make this Dallas defense a top defense in the NFL. Eberflus is also known for using the ability to get the best of his defensive linemen. The Cowboys, who are in need of stopping the run, will have Eberflus in charge in hopes of solving the problem of this long-standing issue Dallas has had for years.
