What Move the Surging Knicks Could Make to Put Them in Serious Title Contention
After a very imposing start to the year, it is very hard not to look ahead and wonder if this team has enough star power and chemistry to finally compete for a championship. The whole starting lineup is firing on all cylinders winning their last five games and leaders Jalen Brunson and Karl-Anthony Towns are having career-defining years. Are we there yet though? That is the question on all the minds of Knick fans. Time and time again we have seen the Knicks look like a championship contender but fall just short and a lot of that comes down to the depth of the team.
Who The Knicks Should Trade
All Knicks fans respect loyalty, and there has been no player more loyal currently on the roster than center Mitchell Robinson. He was drafted in 2018 and has been a crucial piece towards the team’s dynamic ever since. However, he has been injury-prone his entire career and has yet to play a game this season. Although he is nearing a return and it would be appealing to see how he would fit into the lineup the Knicks have currently, his contract is up next year and it is looking like no better time to move on than right now.
Potential Trade Targets
Now a lot of people would assume that if the Knicks were giving up Mitchell Robinson, they would look to acquire a center to replace him. However, personally, I believe Precious Achiuwa already fits that backup center role perfectly. I think the correct path would be to target a defensive forward who also has the ability to provide some scoring off the bench so we don’t have to rely too heavily on our stars come playoff time. Cameron Johnson comes to mind right away as a perfect candidate for this team but he may be tough to put together a package for. I also like Kelly Oubre Jr. I feel like that would be a perfect piece off the bench to aid in the Knicks contention probability. Also if we want to look at a younger forward who the Knicks could benefit from down the line we can look at Herbert Jones Jr. from the Pelicans.
