What The Giant's Star Receiver Needs for Next Season
The New York Giants had a pretty rough season last season. They finished the season with a record of 3-14. Very few players had a great season on this team due to how quickly disastrous things got for them. Malik Nabers happened to be one of those top players who had a great season. He broke records for yardage and catches in only his rookie season. Despite having a great season, here are a few things Nabers is going to need to have an even better season for the coming year.
The Perfect Quarterback
The Giants are in the hunt for a quarterback and looking to pick up someone who is going to make the moves on the field. The Giants have been through multiple quarterbacks within a span of two seasons. There were several weeks where the Giants had a different quarterback going in every time they hit the field. The offensive line most of the time didn’t have a steady beat of who they were going to work with.
Nabers was the one who was mostly open on the field. Unfortunately, he did not make contact with all of the quarterbacks that the Giants were moving through. Nabers has stated if the Giants pick up anyone he would be happy. He would be happy if the Giants did get Cam Ward or Shedeur Sanders. He feels like the matchup would be one he could definitely work with for the coming future. The Giants just need to get someone who is going to get the ball to him and move down the field, they couldn’t do much about it last season but if they are able to build off of what they currently have, they should be just fine.
Being The Seen Open Guy
Nabers has been the open guy on multiple occasions. Fans can usually spot him running up the side of the field and jumping up and down to let his quarterback know that he’s wide open. A lot of times last season, the ball didn’t go his way and when it did, it was rushed and he ended up dropping the ball which sent everyone over the edge. He was one of the most open guys on the field last season. There was no one really there to stop him. He was also the guy who scored several of the touchdowns that were needed for this team last season. He’s the open guy that everyone on the Giants needs and everyone on the team needs to start noticing this. It would make things much better for the Giants next season and when it comes to learning new schemes.
The Offensive Line Needs To Keep Everyone At Bay
One more area where the Giants will be able to help Nabers out in the best way possible is fixing up their offensive line. Last season, they spent so much time letting guys slip by them because they could not make the stops onto the field. When they couldn’t make the stops, opposing teams could easily get through and jump on Nabers, whom they were trying to stop. It wasn’t just him, it was other players such as Tyrone Tracy Jr. and Darius Slayton, another player whom they also need to replace for next season due to free agency. If the Giants can close all the gaps, and protect their players throughout the rest of the season, they should have a great season next season.
