Which Quarterback Prospect Will Most Likely Bust?

NFL

Every year, there are several new quarterback prospects that hopeful NFL fans believe can become their next franchise quarterback. Typically, these quarterback-needy teams are near the bottom of the league, and they are desperate for hope. However, with the right young quarterback, their team’s fortunes can quickly take a turn for the better. The problem is knowing which quarterback will have success in the NFL and which ones will flame out.

This year’s quarterback class features names like Cam Ward, Shedeur Sanders, Jaxson Dart, and others. Now, this year’s class is considered to be a weaker quarterback class, especially when you compare it to the dynamic quarterback class of last year. This is a weird year for teams that need a quarterback because this class has a lot of prospects that have good upside, but many of them also have a high potential to be NFL busts. Additionally, many of the top quarterbacks didn’t even make the College Football Playoffs and, therefore, never got the chance to show off their skills on the highest stage of college football. With teams like the Titans, Giants, and others looking to draft a quarterback with the top picks of the NFL Draft, which quarterback should these teams avoid drafting the most?

Shedeur Sanders may be one of the top selections in the draft this year, but he won’t work in the NFL. With Colorado this season, he finished eighth in Heisman voting with 4,134 yards, 37 touchdowns, and 10 interceptions. Although, on paper, those stats may jump off the page to NFL scouts, the bigger problem is his play style, which won’t translate into the NFL. If we look back at Caleb Williams coming out of USC last year, it was blatantly obvious that he held onto the ball too long and took too many sacks as a result. Therefore, it wasn’t surprising when Caleb Williams took the most sacks of any quarterback in the NFL this past season. Caleb Williams took 33 sacks in his last season at USC, and Shedeur Sanders this past season took 42 sacks. Despite having the Heisman trophy winner at wide receiver for Shedeur, Colorado still wasn’t able to win the Big 12 or make the College Football Playoffs. If Shedeur Sanders cannot learn to avoid sacks and get rid of the ball quickly, he will quickly flame out in the NFL.
