Which Title Will “The Ring General” Gunther Go After Next?

WWE

After a longstanding 666-day reign as Intercontinental Champion, “The Ring General'' Gunther is now the longest reigning Intercontinental Champion of all time. Now it’s time for him to pursue another championship after losing the title to Sami Zayn at WrestleMania 40. The question is, which championship will he go after next? From what we’ve witnessed during his 666-day reign as Intercontinental Champion, Gunther is worthy of competing with the best of the best in WWE.

Ever since Gunther debuted in WWE in January 2019, he’s been on a tear ever since leading up to today. He was a former NXT UK Champion for a long reign of 870 days. Fast forward to April 2022, Gunther made the jump to SmackDown to join the main roster. On the June 10th edition of SmackDown, Gunther defeated Ricochet for the Intercontinental Championship, which started his 666-day reign. Gunther was selected by Raw in the 2024 WWE Draft, so logically it would make the most sense for “The Ring General” to challenge Damian Priest for the World Heavyweight Championship.

Gunther looks to be on his way there by defeating Sheamus in the first round of the King of the Ring tournament this past Monday on Raw. Gunther will then face the winner of Kofi Kingston versus Rey Mysterio in the second round of the tournament. Following the second round will be the Raw Final, then after will be against whichever superstar comes out on top on the SmackDown side of the bracket. That is if Gunther makes it there and wins the King of the Ring tournament, he’ll definitely get a shot at the World Heavyweight Championship against Damian Priest.

These two would put on one heck of a match, leaving fans with their jaws on the floors. With Judgement Day in shambles, could we see a future new World Heavyweight Champion? On the other hand, with Imperium now short-handed without Giovanni Vinci after Ludwig Kaiser attacked him from behind on Raw over two weeks ago, does that mean the numbers game still favors Judgement Day? Will Gunther win the King of the Ring tournament? Only time will tell as the clock keeps ticking on Damian Priest’s next challenger for his championship.
