Why A.J. Brown Could Be in for a Big Game

NFL

Earlier today, it was reported that the Eagles will be without star receiver DeVonta Smith. In a highly anticipated Sunday night showdown against the Rams, it’s unfortunate the Eagles will be down a key weapon. With that being said, one player in particular could be poised for a monster night against the Rams. Fully healthy and ready to go, A.J. Brown may be in for a big night against the Rams for a few reasons.

Going back to last season, Brown had a massive day against the Rams, hauling in eight receptions along with 127 yards. This season, the Rams rank 22nd in the NFL in pass defense, allowing an average of 223 passing yards per game. With a clean pocket, Jalen Hurts is bound to find windows for Brown. Brown continues to be Hurts’ favorite target, and it’s safe to believe that Brown could face upwards of eight targets this game. If the Eagles' run game, led by Saquon Barkley, can get going early, Brown could be a threat downfield in play-action.

On the season, Brown has continued to prove he’s worth every penny of the contract extension signed this past offseason. Brown signed a three-year, $96 million contract, keeping him in Philadelphia through 2029. He has eclipsed 100 receiving yards in three games so far this season. Against the Rams’ secondary, Brown should find pockets of space to exploit. From the middle of the field to the sidelines, he can take advantage of his ability to accumulate yards after the catch. Over the seven games he’s played, Brown has averaged 88 yards per game, along with 33 receptions and three touchdowns. In a pivotal matchup for Philadelphia, as they race for the top seed in the NFC, Brown will be relied on for all four quarters. On Sunday night, we’ll truly see how special the playoff connection is between Hurts and Brown. We could very well be in for a massive performance from A.J. Brown in prime-time.
