Why Is the Tag Team Championship TLC Match Not Happening at WrestleMania?

WWE

Tonight marks the start of WrestleMania 41 in Las Vegas, and fans are buzzing with excitement over the biggest wrestling event of the year. However, one story feels as if it is currently overshadowing the matches scheduled for tonight and tomorrow: The controversy over the Tag Team Championships. Next week on SmackDown in Houston, Texas, the Tag Team Championships will be defended in a Tables, Ladders, and Chairs match. Many fans are disappointed that this high-stakes match is not happening at WrestleMania itself. Instead, it is scheduled for a week later, which has sparked a lot of frustration.

The current champions, The Street Profits, defended their titles last night on the final SmackDown before WrestleMania against the Motor City Machine Guns. The match was cut short when DIY attacked the champions and tried to leave Las Vegas with the titles. They were stopped by SmackDown General Manager Nick Aldis, ordering the titles to be handed over, and he announced that next week, all three teams will compete in a TLC match. The crowd loved the idea of a TLC match but booed loudly when they learned it would not be at WrestleMania.

Many fans are upset that this exciting match won’t take place during the biggest show of the year. It raises the question: Does WWE truly value the Tag Team Division? Meanwhile, the World Tag Team Championships will be defended by the War Raiders against The New Day in a standard match. Why are they getting the WrestleMania spot? Unless there is going to be a surprise, like Big E coming back and getting revenge on his brothers who broke his heart last year, it is just another familiar match. With two nights of WrestleMania and three-hour pre-shows each night with no matches for either of them, there should be plenty of time to include this match on the card. It could have possibly been reminiscent of the classic TLC match at WrestleMania 17 featuring Edge and Christian, The Dudleys, and The Hardys. Instead, it just feels like a missed opportunity to showcase the incredible talent in the Tag Team Division.
