Why It’s Crucial for the 76ers Big Three to Play Together
The 76ers have not had much going for them so far this season. However, they do have one thing going for them and that is their big three, Paul George, Joel Embiid, and Tyrese Maxey. They have all done fantastic individually, but working together hasn’t worked out well for them, because if one isn’t playing, it’s always another. They want to be themselves while playing for the 76ers, but when all three of them hit the court together, things tend to get out of control, and this is exactly what 76ers fans have been hoping for all season. They want them to dominate.
Embiid has been the guy that everyone has been waiting for all season. When he does get on the court and play while he’s not out due to injury, he does really well. In the games he has been able to play, he has scored an average of 24.4 points per game and shoots several three-pointers as well. Head coach Nick Nurse wants to keep him in for most of the game but often finds he can’t because of how easily Embiid has been limited due to injury or he gets himself ejected for his conduct during games. He did not play in Monday night’s game against the Suns, but in the previous games, he had gotten a lot of playtime, shooting field goals and three-pointers for the team. When healthy, Embiid is the biggest asset that the 76ers have out of the three of them.
On the other hand, Paul George has made multiple appearances this season. He has played more often than not and has only missed a few games this season. He is scoring 16.2 points per game this season, averaging 5.6 rebounds, and shooting 41.4% from the field. George has always pushed for more during the games and followed through on each of his promises. Lastly, Tyrese Maxey, the little guy of the big three, has also been making big strides this season. He has been available throughout the season and hasn’t missed a game. Maxey has been getting the ball into his hands and pushing it down the court. He is averaging 25.4 points, 3.3 rebounds, and 5.6 assists per game this season. His field goals have been just as phenomenal as George and Embiid's.
All three of them do fantastic things on their own but they have not actually gotten to play together, only being able to a few times this season. The 76ers would blow everyone out of the water if they were all able to hit the court at the same time. The ability to have all three of them on the court together is crucial if the 76ers want to move up the standings in the Eastern Conference and make it into the playoffs by the season’s end. They would be a top-tier team which is what they have been looking for during the past few seasons. They have had so much anticipated for them and so far it has not been happening. Fans have gotten to see glimpses of what could come from this trio. The only times that the 76ers have pulled off wins in a game is if one of these three is playing in the game, they give the team that boost that they need.
