Why John Cena Should Win These Championships in 2025
This upcoming Monday, January 6th, the WWE makes their huge, gravitating move with Monday Night Raw moving to Netflix. This move will make wrestling mainstream again in 2025. It’s been mentioned in the December 30th episode of Raw and last night’s episode on SmackDown that John Cena’s retirement tour will begin at the Intuit Dome. Fans are reliving their best memories of Cena with just only a year left of his professional wrestling career taking hold. Many want the 16-time World Champion to win his 17th and pass Ric Flair for the most World titles in wrestling history. Some want to see the Doctor of Thuganomics win the WWE Intercontinental Championship and become a grand slam champion. In Cena’s final professional year as a WWE superstar, what are the most realistic titles for him to hold?
WWE World Heavyweight Championship
On Monday, it wouldn’t be surprising to see Cena come out to a huge pop in the Intuit Dome. It’s very likely he makes a promo in the ring and doesn’t have a match. As he’s cutting his promo, he gets interrupted by the one and only ‘Ring General’ Gunther. We have not seen Gunther on television since Saturday Night’s Main Event back on December 14th. It wouldn’t be a whole lot of shock to see the current World Heavyweight Champion start mocking the future WWE Hall of Famer. This feud is certainly what could lead us down the road for the belt at WrestleMania XLI. If Cena is going to become a 17-time champion, it certainly won’t be against Cody Rhodes, the most logical option would be ‘The Ring General. With the most popular babyface in the company’s history, against one of the best heels in the WWE today along with a great story, this build-up could go over the next few months and become one of the hottest storylines within the year.
WWE Intercontinental Championship
Cena fans have been anticipating the moment he’ll finally become grand slam champion. It’s certainly possible it will happen in the final year of his time in the company. The 16-time champion will elevate Raw’s mid-card division and could help give more popularity to heels like Bron Breakker, Big Bronson Reed, and more. While many want to see Sheamus become a grand slam champion as well this year, with it being Cena’s last year, it’s an absolute must to record himself in the record books as a grand slam champion. With the World Heavyweight Championship, you could tell that Gunther is Cena’s most likely opponent, but it’s certainly harder to figure out who Cena could win the Intercontinental Championship from. Either way, seeing the Doctor of Thuganomics with this belt would be well deserved.
WWE World Tag Team Championship
Wouldn’t it be a magical moment in the WWE to have R-Truth teamed up with his childhood hero John Cena and win the World Tag Team Championship? Having Cena and Truth as a team, giving their opponents the five-knuckle shuffle together would be legendary to see. Truth’s dreams of not only working with his childhood hero but winning the tag team belts as well would be made to the fullest extent. I would love to see this happen. It makes Cena’s retirement tour even more memorable than it can be. After Truth and The Miz lost the World Tag Team Championship to Finn Balor and JD McDonagh of the Judgement Day and Miz betrayed Truth, it would turn Truth’s last few months of woes to a great moment.
