Why Sting’s Legacy Will Last for Generations

AEW

Last night in Greensboro North Carolina at AEW Revolution, one of the most prolific wrestlers of all time competed for his last time in the ring. Steven Borden, better known as Sting, and his tag-team champion partner Darby Allin faced off against The Young Bucks Matthew and Nicholas Jackson. The tag team of Sting and Allin was accompanied by the ‘Nature Boy’ Ric Flair, and Sting’s brother, and son. Matthew Jackson tapped out from Sting’s ‘Scorpion Deathlock’ to win the match. Sting’s nearly 40-year career will go on to be timeless, and one of the best all-around works by a single professional wrestler. His impact on many of the current wrestlers now is unbelievable, he’s been a huge part of this industry from the very start of his career.

Sting has won numerous accolades over his Hall of Fame career. He’s a one-time NWA World Television Champion and Heavyweight Champion. With WCW, Sting has been a WCW International World Heavyweight Champion, and a United States Heavyweight Champion twice. The Hall of Famer was a six-time WCW Heavyweight Champion, defeating the likes of Lex Luger, Big Van Vader, Hollywood Hogan, and Diamond Dallas Page. He’s a three-time WCW World Tag Team Champion, winning this belt alongside Lugar, The Giant, and Kevin Nash. At Total Nonstop Action Wrestling, Sting has also built up a lengthy resume. The Hall of Famer won the TNA World Heavyweight Championship four times, which is tied for the second most within the company. He won the TNA World Tag Team Championship one time with Kurt Angle. The legend was named Comeback Wrestler of the Year in Pro Wrestling Illustrated in 2006, 2011, and 2014. Sting has been voted into the TNA Hall of Fame in 2012, and the WWE Hall of Fame in 2016.

After AEW Revolution ended, Sting thanked the crowd. The entire crowd chanted ‘Thank you Sting’ as it burst through the Greensboro Coliseum. President of AEW Tony Kahn came out, hugged, and thanked the legend for everything he’s done. Tony Chimel gave one final “It's Sting!” before the whole crowd and the entire locker room came out and cheered the Hall of Famer on. It’s been a remarkable career for Sting, truly one of the best wrestlers to ever set forth in the ring. His impact will leave marks on the wrestling industry for years to come.
