Why the Giants Need to Keep This Pass Rusher

NFL

There is so much uncertainty for players who currently reside on the New York Football Giants football team. So many players have been moved around, spoken to, let go for free agency, traded, and rumored to be signed that this current team is going to need an extreme rebuild for next season. At the moment, the Giants are currently looking to their defensive line and seeing what they are going to do in that area. They are currently trying to figure out what they want to do with one of their current defensive lineman Kayvon Thibodeaux.

Thibodeaux has been with the Giants since he was drafted by them in the fifth round of the 2022 draft. He has always been a dynamic defensive end who has always had explosive talent when he has gotten what he needed on the field. He was 53rd among defenders for putting the pressure on in 2024. He has struggled to live up to the hype but he has always made the effort to bring the heat for this defensive line where it was needed. His future with the Giants is a major speculation.

The Giants are trying to figure out if they want to go with the fifth-year option. This year he is eligible and he is projected to be up for at least $16.5 million. The other option is if they would like to let him go. They claim he didn’t play well last season. Last season, he was out for several games with a wrist injury that he underwent surgery for. The Giants have until May 1st to think over this option. He could do better this season if the Giants decide to do better and make their defensive line more stable. It should never have just been on Thibodeaux, Brian Burns, and Dexter Lawrence, in the end, things fell apart when they lost both Lawrence and Burns during certain games during injury.

When this defensive line plays, he certainly shows what he can do. Last season was a bust for him, but he has in the past really fixed things. He has shown that he can have double-digit sacks and can join the NFL’s top-tier pass rushers. This season alone he resisted 28 tackles, and five and a half sacks in 12 contests, the season before he had racked up 50 tackles, 11.5 sacks, and three forced fumbles in 2023.

Thibodeaux is confident about how he can make things better for this team if the Giants decide to keep him on. There are talks that they may not but with what he has proven in the past, the Giants may decide to keep him.  He wants to remain in the Big Apple and he is hoping to get something done in New York. He is one of the bigger pieces that New York needs when it comes to following through on any promises for this new and upcoming season.
