Why the Saints Signing Former Kansas City Chiefs Safety is a Great Move

NFL

When a team wins the Super Bowl, the victory is typically attributed to the “cohesiveness” of the team. Every player regardless of position has the same motivation, knows the same plays, has trained and worked together throughout the season, and can anticipate the events before every snap of the ball. During the months following the championship game and up until the first day of the regular season, NFL analysts will dissect every down, scrutinize every decision made on the field, and speculate what “could’ve happened” if another person had been playing that particular position. Years after everything that happened on that Sunday evening, it will be the winning team of Super Bowl LIX that will be remembered and the few moments that altered the outcome. When deciding on who to draft on your team for the upcoming season, wouldn’t you also consider including players from the team that lost the big game?

Fortunately, it had been considered by the New Orleans Saints to implement this plan which officially resulted in a three-year deal for safety Justin Reid from the Kansas City Chiefs. At 28 years old, Mr. Reid’s impressive NFL resume includes being a two-time Super Bowl champion out of the three years he was on the Chiefs, starting in 102 games of the 106 total in which he has played, has 424 solo tackles of the 580 he was involved, and has intercepted 10 passes one of which was returned for a 101-yard touchdown in his rookie year. Justin has shown his versatility by playing as an emergency kicker for the Chiefs when it became necessary resulting in making one extra point out of two of them. He isn’t a stranger to Louisiana because he was born in Prairieville and was an All-State safety, All-State in track and field, and lettered in soccer while attending Dutchtown High School. His charity work focuses on supporting disadvantaged youth and communities through interactive programs with his “JReid InDeed” for children in Houston, Baton Rouge, and Kansas City.

Justin Reid will have some things in common with the other safety on this new team. Before his 2022 career began in New Orleans, Tyrann Mathieu had spent the previous three seasons with the Chiefs and left before Reid’s arrival on the team. His involvement in the past three seasons on the Saints has been noteworthy with starting and playing in all his 51 games during which he has intercepted 10 passes and returned one of those for a 74-yard touchdown. Combining their current defensive capabilities and what they showed what they could do while on the field this past season, these two players will probably affirm the already-proven defense of the New Orleans Saints. Who Dat goin’ show ‘em again what this defense can do?
