Why Tommy DeVito Has Earned His Shot

NFL

There has been much talk around the NFL about the status of Daniel Jones. Many have said they could replace Jones with Mac Jones, Bryce Young, Trevor Lawrence, or any name they could throw into the quarterback pool. The Giants are officially 1-3 after losing to the Cowboys in Week Four. It takes a team to make things happen, but more often than not, for the Giants, the issues lie in what’s going on with the quarterback status. Jones has been playing much better, but fans are still unhappy with how things are handled on the field. The Giants have two backup quarterbacks to play with, but they have yet to use either one in the regular season.

Drew Lock, hasn't had much playing time since preseason. He played for the Seahawks last season as a backup quarterback before being signed to the Giants roster during the offseason. He played in the first preseason game and then left with a hip injury, where fans saw quarterback favorite Tommy DeVito step in. DeVito makes things happen on the field. He knows how to make contact and knows what he is doing. He has a lot more accuracy and follows through on the promises he makes with his throws.

We last saw him in action last season when Jones and Tyrod Taylor were both out with injuries. DeVito won several straight games last season. Sure, there was a loss or two, but he did great things for the Giants. He moved the ball up the field and got the team back to scoring touchdowns, exactly what they needed. The Giants did not kick field goals on nearly every drive.

DeVito since then has become the back burner on the quarterback log with the return of Jones and the signing of Lock. Fans have been asking for him to return to the field. They are tired of watching this New York team lose and be the joke of the NFL. If the Giants are going to choose anybody to replace Jones, if he were to be benched this season, it would be the right choice to go with DeVito.
