Will Georgia Tech Baseball Remain Ranked?
The Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets have been holding their own in a very dominant season for ACC baseball. Georgia Tech has gone 25-6 overall so far in the 2025 season and is 10-4 in conference play. ACC baseball, much like the SEC, is a force to be reckoned with, and with the addition of Stanford and Cal this season, the stakes have been raised even higher. Currently, the Yellow Jackets sit at the very bottom of the Division One Baseball rankings, in a season that has been filled with unpredictable upsets, the 25th-ranked spot is a dangerous place to be. Will they remain ranked when the new set of rankings is released on Monday?
This week, they sit on a winning streak after falling to Clemson in their series last weekend. The Yellow Jackets started their week on Tuesday with a huge 21-5 victory over Mercer, forcing the run rule and ending the game in just seven innings. This weekend, they’re in California facing one of the new additions to the ACC, Stanford. Though Stanford is not currently ranked, they were for a while this season; a series sweep would look great for the Yellow Jackets.
So far in this series, the Yellow Jackets have managed to secure two wins. On Friday, they won by two runs 8-6. On Friday, they stepped it up massively and won by seven 10-3. A series win on the road will help Georgia Tech tremendously to keep its spot in the rankings. However, sweeping the series is not necessarily enough to keep them in the rankings.
Looking just above Georgia Tech at the 24th-ranked spot in the country sits Arizona State. ASU has gone 20-11 so far this season and currently sits on an unfortunate losing streak. In this weekend’s series against Arizona, the Sun Devils have suffered losses in back-to-back games. Falling to an unranked team is not a good look, especially when you’re a team already at the bottom of the pack. While this may not be great for the Sun Devils, it’s great for the Yellow Jackets, who now not only have the opportunity to stay ranked but to move up in the rankings as well. If ASU loses yet again and Georgia Tech can sweep their series, it’s safe to say their spot in the rankings isn’t going anywhere.
