Will Joel Embiid Play On Christmas Day Following Monday’s Ejection?
The Philadelphia 76ers have had one very long season with their center, Joel Embiid. He has once again found himself in trouble with the league. During their most recent game against the San Antonio Spurs, Embiid was ejected after a play was called for a technical foul. Embiid went off on a female referee, Jenna Schroeder, and he was immediately ejected from the game in the second quarter and had 14 minutes of play. The NBA is currently in the midst of trying to figure out what to do with him. He will have to deal with several fines and face a possible second suspension this season.
That said, the 76ers will be playing the Boston Celtics on Christmas Day and most likely without Embiid. The 76ers have been doing very well playing with him for the last several games that he has played in this season. So far this season, Embiid has played in only eight games, scored 20.6 points, had 6.8 rebounds, and had 4.1 assists. The 76ers have been happy with how he has played, but not about his actions both on the court. Embiid has also been out with injuries despite his first suspension. They will have to use Tyrese Maxey more often, who has been doing fantastic on the court.
Maxey has been the one holding the team up, even with Embiid being out and only appearing in eight games in total for the season. Maxey has appeared in 21 games this season, scoring 25.4 points, recording 3.9 rebounds, and helping with 5.1 assists. He may be the one playing the part on Christmas Day. He held the team up when Embiid was ejected in Monday night's game.
There is still hope that the 76ers may do well on Christmas against the Celtics. If Embiid is not allowed to play, the 76ers already have their guy to cover the position. The 76ers are running out of steam with him quite fast. Several sources have suggested that the team may suggest to send him to anger management or ask him to step away altogether from the league if Embiid keeps his antics up.
