Will Stone Cold Steve Austin Crash the Glass Once Again?

WWE

If bringing back WWE legend The Rock wasn’t good enough for the WWE Universe, there may be another legend hinting at a return for WrestleMania 40. The Rock’s longtime rival in the 1990s and early 2000s, Stone Cold Steve Austin has raised the question of whether to return once again. If that return means fighting Rock is not promised, as the Rock is mixed up in his own battles with Cody Rhodes and Roman Reigns. Although, ahead of the WWE 2k24 release, Stone Cold got to reminiscing and was interviewed about a potential return, to which he responded: “Never say never.”

Stone Cold has continued the buzz since this first question on February 13, adding to the excitement by reviewing his last match against Kevin Owens. Austin made his previous return at WrestleMania 38, where he walked away from the ring victorious over Kevin Owens. He commented that he reviewed his tape, and knows he could make improvements, suggesting that he still has another match in him. At 59 years old, it would be another historic matchup for Stone Cold to add to the resume.

Since The Rock isn’t available, who would be the opponent? There could be a few ways the WWE could swing things, but Steve Austin wants to leave it up to them. He did not mention his dream matchup, as he doesn’t want to sway things for the company. When asked about a potential match with CM Punk, however, Stone Cold admitted that it would “be a good one.”  He continued saying, “I like Punk, and I think Punk likes me. So as long as he can take a Stunner,” then that could set up a major battle between the two in what could be Stone Cold’s last match of his career. There are a couple of things still in question, the biggest being CM Punk’s rehab as he recovers from a torn tricep. If all goes well though, there is a chance it could mean the WWE Universe gets to see Hall of Famer and six-time WWE champion, Stone Cold Steve Austin just one more time.
