Will TCU Baseball Remain Ranked?

The TCU Horned Frogs have clawed their way into the D1 Baseball rankings on Monday. Sitting in the 25th spot, they’ve got everything to gain but also everything to lose. So many things go into determining their spot in the rankings, and one wrong move could send them back into the world of unranked teams. As a former unranked team, do they have what it takes to hold their spot in the rankings and even climb the rankings? Let’s take a look at their week of play so far.

Midweek games are crucial for all teams, but as a team sitting at the bottom of the rankings, a midweek win may as well be life or death. TCU fell to Dallas Baptist in extra innings on Tuesday, April 15th. An unfortunate loss for the newly ranked team, a series sweep, or even just a series win would give them the cushion they need to stay in the top 25. The Horned Frogs showed out in game one of their weekend series against UCF, beginning on April 17th.  A 6-1 victory over the Knights put them back in the win column.

Unfortunately, they were overpowered by the Knights in game two. On Friday, TCU found themselves facing a loss once again as they fell 5-1 in their second matchup. The only thing that could’ve saved TCU was a win to close out the series. They put up a better fight in their Saturday matchup, but they still were unable to find their footing. A close 4-2 win pushed the Knights to their second victory and forced TCU to head into the new week on two losses.

A three to one record for the week doesn’t look good for three-to-oneanyone, let alone a ranked team. It will take a miracle for the Horned Frogs. However, how the Frogs competed this week will not be the deciding factor, of course. These rankings have fluctuated so much this season that it seems almost impossible to predict how the rankings will look from week to week. Despite their struggles this week, the Horned Frogs do have the potential to find their way back into the top 25 before the season ends.
