Williams Moving Up: Fifth Position in the Championship
Williams has a long-standing history with Formula 1, with drivers coming and going, points, penalties, and nine world championships. Due to their Formula 1 career, the team has seen all the forms of disappointment and excitement the sport contains. As of now, the current drivers, Carlos Sainz and Alexander Albon, have managed to move the team up to fifth place in the Formula 1 Championship at the end of the Saudi Arabia Grand Prix. Sainz and Albon both scored for Williams during the race, moving their team five points past the Haas Formula 1 Team. Saniz raced his strongest finish in his first season driving in the Williams seat, he placed eighth on the grid. Albon, hot on his wheels, finished in ninth place.
The former Ferrari driver was placed in the Williams seat, following Lewis Hamilton's decision to make a team change after 12 seasons with Mercedes-AMG Petronas. Saniz was then up in the air on who would harness his unbelievable talent, but James Vowles saw his unmatched potential and got him in blue very quickly. As we know, the Smooth Operator has the knack for uplifting each team he drives for, as he is not only good behind the wheel but also fantastic at making team calls as well. He has previously driven with Toro Rosso, Renault, McLaren, Ferrari, and now Williams, so with such experience, it is no surprise he has already made his mark with his new team.
At the beginning of the Saudi Arabia Grand Prix, Albon started 11th on the grid but managed to make passes and climb to ninth by the end of the race. When the checkered flag had flown, he explained that he used Saniz’s DRS and that it had been his course of action, as he used it as a defense mechanism. With such a move and the utilization of both these drivers' immense talent, Williams had moved to fifth place in the Teams Championship with 25 points in their clutch. The team has already earned a significant number of points than they had in 2024. Make sure to keep up with the Williams team and look out for them during the Miami Grand Prix on May 4th.
