Wizards Losers of Their Last Eleven Games

NBA

Recently it has been a rough stretch for the Washington Wizards, who lost their eleventh game in a row tonight. Overall, they’ve won three games so far in 2024 and have yet to win a single game in February. It’s clear that small forward Kyle Kuzma and shooting guard Jordan Poole are not capable of being the number one and number two options offensively or defensively on an NBA team if that team wants to be successful considering the Wizards' current record sits at 9-48. This record has Washington in the spot of the 14th seed in the Eastern Conference, giving them the worst record in the league behind the “Cade n’em” Detroit Pistons.

Through the season's first 57 games, Kyle Kuzma has led the Wizards in scoring, averaging close to 22 points, along with about six rebounds a night. However, going into this season that was not necessarily supposed to be the case. Many Wizards and all-around NBA fans had high hopes for shooting guard Jordan Poole who was traded to Washington alongside forward Patrick Baldwin Jr., guard Ryan Rollins, and draft picks for point guard Chris Paul this past July. Unfortunately for Wizards fans, Poole has not lived up to expectations at all this season as, while he is averaging close to 16 points a game, his numbers are down in virtually every category compared to last season and we all know he is not playing like the player he can play like nor the player the Wizards willingly traded for.

Tonight, in their matchup versus the Cleveland Cavaliers however Poole was not disappointing in the slightest as he led the Wizards offensively scoring 31 points. Kuzma added 27 points and point guard Tyus Jones had ten assists doing a great job running the offense. If you were to look at the box score of this one you would realize this was a pretty solid game played by the Wizards and they still lost. Which in itself is quite exactly their problem. The Wizards are not just struggling to win here and there, they are struggling to win at all. Wes Unseld Jr., who was the Wizards' Head Coach when this season started, was moved to a front-office position in late January and was replaced by current Washington Interim Head Coach Brian Keefe. However, it doesn’t matter if the Wizards got prime John Wooden to coach this team right now, it still might be hard to win. What can Washington due to fix their team problems? Is it time to invest in a trade and if so, what other teams would even be interested in any of their players?
