Women’s Tennis at College: Rochester Institute of Technology at the ITA Northeast Championship

It can be easy to think that tennis is only a game that is played on big-time courts like at the ever-popular Wimbleton. On the contrary, tennis is a game that anyone can play, which just goes to show why it has endured for so long. Recently, Rochester Institute of Technology's women's tennis team took on the Intercollegiate Tennis Association Northeast Championship, which brought together college tennis teams from across the nation. The surprising results just go to show that tennis heroes can come from anywhere and that this sport is an enduring one.

While college tennis might not be quite as flashy as the games the pros play, it is nevertheless interesting and perhaps humbling to see the game played on a smaller field. In a recent game, first-years Melanie Saborio and Maya McDaniel defeated Sonya Pereldik and Aira Abalos, 8-4. Additionally, sophomore Kira Kronenberg and first-year Emily Greb won over Haley Peck and Danielle Copp, 8-0. These are names we may hear more of in the years to come. After all, before Coco Gauff was a hero, she was another player with a tennis racquet honing her game on a small-time tennis court.

It is unknown what the future holds for these young heroes, Saborio, McDaniel, Kronenberg, and Greb. However, with any luck and a bit of hard work, they can hopefully win a few more victories just like this one. They've already put themselves on the map. Now they just have to build themselves up. Of course, tennis isn't just about winning and losing. It's about how you play the game. Right now, it looks like some of our future tennis stars might just come from RIT after all.

To conclude this piece, the future of tennis is looking bright. If the future pros are half as good as these college tennis players, tennis buffs will have much to look forward to in the years to come. Every hero had to start somewhere. Right now, it looks like new legends are beginning at the Rochester Institute of Technology. One can hardly wait to see how far they will go.
