Ten-Time All-Star Elected to Hall of Fame
Carmelo Anthony was informed today that he has been selected as being a part of the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame Class of 2025. He played 20 years in the NBA and was a part of the famed 2003 NBA Draft, which futured Lebron James, Dwyane Wade, and Chris Bosh. After winning a national title at Syracuse, Anthony was drafted third overall by the Denver Nuggets and became one of the league’s top perimeter scorers. He averaged 21 points per game during his rookie season and led the Nuggets to the Western Conference Finals in the 2008-09 season. He would average 24 points, six rebounds, and three assists during his eight years in Denver.
Anthony was traded to the New York Knicks in 2011 in a blockbuster trade and became a fan favorite for New York fans, who have been clamoring for a superstar since Melo. While with the Knicks he went on to lead the league in scoring in 2013, but could not lead New York past the second round of the playoffs. He played for the Knicks for seven seasons averaging 25 points, seven rebounds, and three assists in 412 career games with New York before being traded to the Oklahoma City Thunder in 2017. After his short stint with the Thunder, Anthony went on to play five more seasons with three more teams before calling it a career. He retired in 2022 and finished his career scoring 28,289 points which is good for 10th on the NBA’s all-time scoring list.
Anthony also is a four-time Olympian as a member of Team USA Basketball. He has won three gold medals and one bronze medal in his Olympic career. Anthony is still around the game even in retirement as he has gone on to be a mentor to his son Kiyan, who will be playing his college ball at his father’s alma mater next season. Anthony has also made news as being potentially interested in joining the ownership group of the Washington Wizards. Now, he will take his rightful place in basketball immortality were his legacy will be recognized forever.
