Yankees Advance to World Series for the First Time in 15 Years

MLB

Well Yankee fans, it’s been long overdue. For the first time in 15 years, the New York Yankees are heading to the World Series. Both the Bronx Bombers and the Cleveland Guardians were tied at two after nine innings of play, and a huge three-run home run would put the Yankees on top and finally at the peak of where they’ve wanted to be for the past couple of seasons. Their opponent will be decided through either Game Six or Game Seven of the NLCS. While the Los Angeles Dodgers seem like the most likely opponent due to their strength and being home the next two games, however, we could potentially see another Subway Series World Series. It will certainly be interesting to see what this year’s World Series matchup will look like, and if the Yankees can overcome all the adversity they’ve faced over the last few seasons.

After winning 8-6 on Friday night during Game Four, the Yankees looked to close this American League Championship Series out for good. The Guardians would take an early lead during the bottom of the second when catcher Bo Naylor mashed an RBI double near the right field wall. A few innings later in the fifth, left fielder Steven Kwan hit an RBI single to center field. Just a half inning later, Yankees designated hitter Giancarlo Stanton tied the game up with a two-run shot to left-center field. Both teams escaped multiple jams which would have caused damage to either side. Nonetheless, neither team could score that extra run needed to win this game, pushing this Game Five to extra innings. During the top of the tenth, Yankees right fielder Juan Soto demolished a three-run homer to right-center field, giving New York their first lead of the game. Reliever Luke Weaver would make Guardians center fielder Lane Thomas fly out, to help the Yankees advance to the World Series. Stanton was named the 2024 ALCS MVP as he hit four home runs in five games with seven runs batted in.

Yankees starting pitcher Carlos Rodon pitched four and two third innings allowing two runs on five hits and a walk while striking out six. Soto went three for five with three RBIs while Stanton went one for four with two RBIs in the defining win. For the Guardians, starting pitcher Tanner Bibee pitched five and two third innings allowing two runs on six hits while striking out five. Bo Naylor was the only Guardian to record a multi-hit game in the loss. Now, New York will get a few days of rest before it’s determine who their World Series opponent is.
