Yankees Take Series vs. Red Sox

MLB

The New York Yankees have been inconsistent recently, but this past series against the Boston Red Sox brought out the early season form in them. The series felt like something out of the beginning of the season, as they took two of the three games played, winning the latter two in a row. This could be a sign that they are back in form. Plus, the fans sure have been waiting a while for this, as it seemed like it’d been ages since they’d won two in a row

They took Sunday’s game by a score of 8-2, and they were raking from the beginning. The top of the first was electric, with a lead-off double from Alex Verdugo, followed by a single from Aaron Judge, driving him in. Later in the inning, Gleyber Torres hit a two-run single, driving in Judge and Austin Wells. Torres was thrown out at second, but it was still a serious inning, as New York piled on for the rest of the game through runs from a two-run homer by Oswaldo Cabrera, and sac flies from Ben Rice and DJ LeMahieu. It was a high-scoring series for the Yankees, as they won 11-8 on Wednesday, thanks to a serious extra-inning rally, led by Torres, who hit a clutch two-run double in the 10th. Even during Friday’s game, which was lost by a score of 9-7, there was plenty of offense produced in this series, and it’s definitely something to be excited about. However, it should be noted that the pitching wasn’t the greatest, as aside from Sunday’s game, a pretty solid amount of runs were given up. The offense scoring seven runs should be enough to win a game, and if the Yankees really want to make this push, the pitching will have to step up just as much as the offense has.

Overall, this season has been a really interesting one for New York. It’s been a bouncy few weeks, but things finally do look like they’re coming together. Boston is a very good team, and this is without a doubt something to be excited about. Some big moves at the deadline could make a serious difference. It’s all about consistency from here on out, and we’ll see what happens.
