Young Menacing End Signs with the Saints

NFL

It has been reported that former first-round pick Chase Young has signed with the New Orleans Saints. Young is coming off a productive year where he spent both times with the Washington Commanders as well as the San Francisco 49ers. During the season Young accounted for seven and a half sacks, which ties his career high. On top of that, Young played 16 games this year which is the most of his career. In past years Young has struggled with knee injuries most predominantly tearing his ACL in the 2021 season.

Former first-rounder Chase Young will look to bring a dominant edge presence to the Saints as many NFL GMs believe he still has untapped potential due to his measurables and young age. In his rookie season, his impact was felt immediately, as he showcased an ability to disrupt opposing offenses with his explosive bursts off the line of scrimmage and relentless pursuit of the opposing team's QB. In Young's rookie season, he made a huge contribution to the team's defensive efforts, earning him the NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year award. While those days may be behind him this past season, he showed many of those same traits, playing on the opposite side of Nick Bosa and contributing to the 49ers clinching the NFC’s first seed.

Young this past season proved many haters wrong for sure. In the Super Bowl, he recorded one sack and had multiple other quarterback hits But, his stats are still not eye-opening for someone drafted second overall as the face of a franchise. This season, Young had a Pro Football Focus grade of 74.4, which is not incredible. Young will look to build off his bounce-back season with the Saints, and continue with his availability he showed this year. Whether or not Young ever lives up to the hype he got out of college remains to be seen, yet either way, he is a huge piece of the 2024 Saints.
