Young Star Safety Lands with the Giants

NFL

Jevon Holland, viewed as a rising star in the Miami Dolphins' secondary, will find himself on a new team heading into the 2025 season. The 24-year-old safety has flashed elite potential in past years, but 2024 proved to be a step back in his development. Playing in 15 games and recording 62 tackles, a sack, and four passes defensed, Holland wasn’t able to make the same impact as in previous seasons. However, he's proven to have an amazing ability to read the offense and be a star safety in the league. Additionally, a shift in defensive scheme forced him into a deeper free safety role, limiting his ability to blitz and play near the line of scrimmage, where he had previously thrived. Furthermore, Holland has signed a three-year, $45.3 million deal that is worth up to $46.8 million with the New York Giants.

Despite a strong start to the season, including a game-saving forced fumble against the Jacksonville Jaguars in Week One, Jevon Holland struggled to produce highlight plays consistently throughout the year. This inconsistency in his performance was notable, as he had previously shown promise as a key defensive player for the Miami Dolphins. His drop in production, combined with Miami’s evolving defensive priorities, had raised questions about whether the Dolphins would commit to him long-term. As Holland entered free agency, his future with the Dolphins remained uncertain, with the team needing to address several defensive weaknesses to improve their overall performance.

Teams in need of secondary help, like the Pittsburgh Steelers or the Los Angeles Chargers, were looking to add the young safety. However, now, Holland will look to have a big impact on the Giants next season. With his versatility and playmaking ability, Holland could still develop into one of the league’s top safeties in the right system. While 2024 may have hurt his value, the Giants will be relying on him to return to form next season.
