10-Year Veteran Signs with the Minnesota Timberwolves

NBA

The Minnesota Timberwolves have made an addition to their offseason, adding Joe Ingles to a one-year, $3.3 million deal after the Orlando Magic declined his option for the second year of his contract. Ingles signed a two-year, $22 million contract with the Magic last July, but will be picked up by the Timberwolves for year two of the deal. The Timberwolves were targeting Ingles from the moment Kyle Anderson was no longer going to be a part of the team. As a veteran who plays a similar role, Ingles looks to slide comfortably into Minnesota’s rotation, replacing Anderson.

Although Ingles will turn 37 this year, having him puts a crucial piece of the puzzle for Minnesota to take the next step toward being championship-caliber. Ingles has played plenty of meaningful games and will help to guide a team full of young potential to the next level. He also provides a dangerous asset as a three-point specialist, especially from the corners. As a career 41% shooter from three, Ingles can provide big buckets and a threat if the defense gravitates toward the Timberwolves’ larger offensive threats.

Adding Ingles also reunites him with former teammates Mike Conley and Rudy Gobert. The three were part of a Jazz team that was once a number-one seed in the Western Conference. Utah had multiple years of being a 50-win team, with all three of these players in the starting lineup. Now once again back on the same team, the Timberwolves look to put up similar numbers with greater playoff success, looking to redeem themselves in the Western Conference Finals.
