Clutch Scoring Role Player Agrees to Terms with the Heat
This past season, the Detroit Pistons traded shooting guard Alec Burks to the New York Knicks. Coincidentally enough, the Knicks traded Burks to the Pistons during the 2022 offseason. Although he only played in 23 games with New York this regular season, the 13-year veteran had some big-time moments during six of the Knicks playoff games. Burks was an absolute clutch scoring role player that New York desperately needed, and with the Knicks being eliminated by the Indiana Pacers in Game Seven of the Eastern Conference Semifinals, the veteran shooting guard has become a free agent. It was just announced that Burks signed a one-year contract with the Miami Heat.
Burks started off his career being the 12th overall pick in the 2011 NBA Draft being selected by the Utah Jazz. Through 2011-2018, the future 13-year veteran was a member of the Jazz, before being traded to the Cleveland Cavaliers. A year later, he was traded to the Sacramento Kings in a three-team deal. During the 2019 offseason, the clutch scoring role player signed with the Golden State Warriors, Seven months later, Burks was once again traded, this time to the Philadelphia Phillies. In the 2020-2021 regular season, he signed a one-year deal with the New York Knicks, spending the next two seasons in New York before being traded to the Detroit Pistons, where he spent another two years before once again being traded back to the Knicks.
In 66 games played with both the Detroit Pistons, and the New York Knicks this season, the 13-year veteran averaged about 10 points, two rebounds, and an assist in 18 minutes on the court a night. During six appearances during the playoffs for New York, Burks upped his scoring to nearly 15 points a game. In those playoffs, he shot 50 percent from the field, and 43 percent from deep. Now with the Heat, the absolute clutch scoring role player can certainly put up around the same consistent numbers.
