11-Year Defenseman Signs with the Bruins
Even though the Canucks lost to the Edmonton Oilers in Game Seven of the second round of the playoffs, defenseman Nikita Zadorov was a bright spot for Vancouver, contributing unexpected postseason scoring. In November 2023, Zadorov asked the Calgary Flames for a trade, and he was later traded to the Canucks with the intention of contributing to a playoff team. Zadorov, however, found it difficult to establish his offensive rhythm during the regular season, only managing six goals, 14 assists, and 20 points in 75 games played. However, once Zadorov and the Canucks reached the postseason, the 11-year defenseman's scoring ability improved, as he recorded four goals, four assists, and eight points in 13 postseason games. According to The Athletic, the Boston Bruins have signed Zadorov to a six-year deal, worth $30 million.
Before turning pro in 2012, 29-year-old Zadorov spent a season in the Ontario Hockey League. The Buffalo Sabres selected Zadorov with the 16th overall pick in the 2013 NHL Entry Draft. Zadorov gained recognition quickly for his tough play style. With his intimidating physical frame, Zadorov has always been known for his physicality and strength. In his 11-year career, Zadorov has amassed 47 goals, 99 assists, 146 points, and two power-play goals, although he has been more recognized for his physical presence than his scoring production.
Zadorov has made a name for himself on the blue line while playing with the Sabres, Colorado Avalanche, Flames, and Canucks. In addition to being well-known for his bone-crushing blows, Zadorov excels at winning fights along the boards by blocking shots with his stature. He will remain an important member of the Bruins' lineup because of his defense stability and commitment to defending his teammates. As we approach the upcoming season, the Bruins hope Zadorov can maintain his dominant defensive presence on the ice and, when necessary, generate plays that change the course of games.
