NBA Veteran Delon Wright Signs with the Bucks

NBA

Eight-year veteran guard Delon Wright has signed a one-year deal, worth $3.3 million with the Milwaukee Bucks. Wright is coming off an impressive 2023-24 postseason with the Miami Heat in which he averaged eight points per game and made 60% of his three-pointers. Due to injuries, Wright was asked to step into a role he wasn’t completely used to. Wright had to play over 26 minutes a game and guard the opposing team's best perimeter players. In a situation where most players would fold due to the pressure, Wright stepped up and is now one of the most sought-after free agents this summer.

Wright will prove to be a great signing for the Bucks because of his versatility. Wright has the length and defensive IQ to guard positions one through three effectively. During the Heat's first-round matchup against the Boston Celtics, he averaged one steal per game and was amongst the team leaders in deflections. Wright is also a good shooter. He shot 36% from three in the regular season which is league average. Wright has also shown the ability to take over playoff games. During Game One of the Heat vs. Celtics Round One matchup, Wright scored 17 points and made five three-pointers on five attempts. What makes this stat line even more impressive is that he was the team's second-leading scorer that game and he did that while coming off the bench.

The addition of Delon Wright almost guarantees that Milwaukee will see an increase in bench production. I would also bet that the Bucks will become better defensively. If Wright can stay healthy, he will be in the discussion for best role players in the NBA. If you watched the 2023-24 NBA Playoffs, then you understand how important having versatile role players really is.
