2024: A Year of Home Runs, Records, and Amazing Moments in MLB
The 2024 MLB season was amazing from start to finish, grabbing attention even before Spring Training started and keeping fans hooked long after the World Series ended. Now, as we welcome a new year, the stories still coming to light remind us why 2024 will go down as a season to remember for baseball fans everywhere. There is no doubt that 2024 was Shohei Ohtani's year. He achieved many records, including becoming the Japanese player with the most home runs in the major leagues with 225. He also became the sixth member of the 40-40 club. Later, he inaugurated the 50-50 club by finishing the year with 54 home runs and 59 stolen bases.
These are some of the amazing feats that Ohtani accomplished, leading him to become the first designated hitter to win the Most Valuable Player award in a season. In addition, he won his first World Series ring, solidifying his place as the central figure of the baseball world in 2024. Aaron Judge was another player who gave fans an exciting year. With his 58 homers, he secured his second MVP; he is also the fifth player in MLB history with three or more seasons with at least 50 homers. The others: Babe Ruth, Mark McGwire, Sammy Sosa, and Alex Rodriguez.
One thing is certain: Danny Jansen made history in 2024 by becoming the first player to appear for both teams in the same game. He was with the Toronto Blue Jays when the game began on June 26th. However, the game was postponed, and by the time it resumed on July 27th, Jansen had joined the Boston Red Sox. It’s a rare occurrence that may never happen again.
There were other records. For example, Tyler O'Neill hit a home run for the fifth consecutive Opening Day, and in 2025, he will try to continue that curious record. It was a year of impressive events that was crowned with a World Series between the two most popular franchises in baseball: the New York Yankees against the Los Angeles Dodgers.
