28-Year-Old Cornerback Inks Deal with the Titans
Since coming into the league in 2017, cornerback Chidobe Awuzie has played with both the Dallas Cowboys and the Cincinnati Bengals. While the 2023 season wasn’t great in general for the Bengals, Awuzie stepped up and played 15 out of 17 games after only playing eight games during the 2022 season. The 28-year-old cornerback became a free agent at season’s end, and today it was announced he signed a three-year 36-million-dollar deal with 23 million being guaranteed by the Tennessee Titans. Now during the second half of his career, Chidobe looks to become a Pro Bowl-caliber player, and perhaps appear in another Super Bowl.
Chidobe Awuzie played all four years of college football at the University of Colorado Boulder. As a freshman, he instantly received playing time and recorded 59 tackles, five tackles for a loss of yardage, one sack, four pass deflections, and two forced fumbles. During his junior and senior years, Awuzie was named to the Second-Team All-Pac-12. The 28-year-old cornerback declared for the NFL Draft back in 2017 and was selected as the 60th overall pick in the second round by the Dallas Cowboys. A few years later in 2021, he would go on to sign a three-year deal with the Bengals.
Last season in 15 games, Awuzie put up 57 combined tackles. 43 of those 57 being solo tackles, and 14 were assisted. He tackled for a loss of yardage twice with six pass deflections. Chidobe’s best game of the season was back in early December. During a 34-31 win over the Jacksonville Jaguars, the 28-year-old cornerback had eight combined tackles, six solo, two assisted tackles, and a pass deflection.
