Four-Year Pro Wide Receiver Agrees to Deal with the Falcons

NFL

The Chicago Bears surprised a lot of people in 2023 when they improved four games from their awful 2022 season when they went 3-14. With the Bears owning the first pick in this year’s NFL Draft from last year’s trade with the Carolina Panthers, the Justin Fields era in Chicago may be over, and that may mean some new faces on the team. For four-year pro wide receiver Darnell Mooney, he’ll be looking to show that he still holds a ton of potential at 26 years of age. Mooney became a free agent at the end of the 2023 season, and today it was announced he signed a three-year 39-million-dollar deal with 26 million being guaranteed from the Atlanta Falcons.

Darnell Mooney spent four years at the University of Tulane before declaring for the 2020 NFL Draft. During his junior and senior seasons at Tulane, the future four-year pro wide receiver caught 48 passes each year, totaling 1,706 receiving yards in those two seasons. In total, he had nineteen touchdowns during his college career. At the 2020 NFL Draft, Mooney was selected by the Chicago Bears in the fifth round as the 173rd overall pick.

In 2023, Darnell finished with a career-low in receptions, yards, and touchdowns. During the 15 games he played, he had 31 receptions for 414 receiving yards, and a touchdown. He missed the final two games of the season due to a concussion. The 26-year-old wide receiver had his best game of the 2023 season against the New Orleans Saints. During a 24-17 loss, Mooney had five receptions for 82 yards
