49ers Cruise to Thanksgiving Night Victory Over the Seahawks

NFL

At the conclusion of the Thanksgiving matchups, the San Francisco 49ers breezed by their division rival Seattle Seahawks in a 31-13 road victory. The Niners improve to 8-3 on the season and remain in first place of the NFC West, with a two-game cushion over the second-place Seahawks. The Seahawks fell to 6-5 with the loss and will travel to Dallas next Thursday to face the Cowboys, while the 49ers will travel to Philadelphia to square off in a pivotal NFC battle with the Eagles. Let’s break down how the Niners pulled off a crucial divisional victory against the Seahawks.

The 49ers got the scoring underway taking a 7-0 lead on their first drive of the game ending in a two-yard touchdown run by wide receiver Deebo Samuel. After being set up with excellent field position following a 66-yard kickoff return, the Seahawks managed to answer on their first drive with Jason Myer’s 51-yard field goal to cut the Niner’s lead to 7-3 in the first quarter. In the second quarter, the 49ers extended their lead to 14-3 after receiving excellent starting field position following a Seahawk’s three and out deep in their own territory. The Niner’s drive ended in a one-yard touchdown run by running back Christian McCaffrey.

Late in the second quarter, the 49ers would extend their lead to 21-3 following McCaffrey’s second touchdown run of the evening. With under two minutes left in the half, San Francisco would add a 32-yard field goal by Jake Moody, extending their lead to 24-3 entering halftime. The Seahawks came out of halftime needing a spark in hopes of mounting a comeback against their division foe. The Seahawks got a glimmer of hope after 49ers quarterback Brock Purdy’s pass, which was intended for McCaffrey, was tipped inside their own 20-yard line leading to a pick-six by Seahawks linebacker Jordyn Brooks, cutting the Niner’s lead to 24-10 in the third quarter. On their next possession, the Seahawks were able to cut their deficit to 24-13 following a 30-yard field goal from Myers. This would be the end of Seattle’s comeback hopes, as the Niners would tack on a touchdown drive in the fourth quarter ending in a 28-yard pass from Purdy to wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk, extending their lead to 31-13.

Brock Purdy finished the game going twenty-one for thirty, with 209 passing yards, one touchdown, and an interception. Niner’s running back Christian McCaffrey rushed for 114 yards and two touchdowns on 19 rushing attempts. Niner’s wide receiver Deebo Samuel had a productive day catching seven passes for 79 yards. In the loss, Seahawks quarterback Geno Smith was inconsistent all game long going eighteen for twenty-seven, with 180 passing yards and one interception. The Seahawks’ receiving core was held in check with their top three receivers in DK Metcalf, Tyler Lockett, and Jaxon Smith-Njigba being limited to under 50 receiving yards.
