Cowboys Get the Best of the Commanders on Thanksgiving

NFL

In the second of three Thanksgiving matchups, the Dallas Cowboys got the best of the Washington Commanders in a 45-10 victory. Dallas now moves to 8-3 on the season, second in the NFC East, while the Commanders sit third within the NFC East at 4-8. Washington will have their bye week this following week, while Dallas will face the Seattle Seahawks on Thursday night football. Let’s check out how the Cowboys gained this big-time victory over the Commanders.

The first score of the game came close to the end of the first quarter when Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott threw a fifteen-yard touchdown pass to running back Rico Dowdle. A few minutes into the second quarter, Commanders’ kicker Joey Slye knocked down a 43-yard field goal cutting Dallas’ lead to just four points. Three minutes after the Commanders' field goal, Dak Prescott threw a deep pass for 31 yards to Brandin Cooks to extend the Cowboys' lead. With less than two minutes left in the second quarter, Commanders’ quarterback Sam Howell ran one yard in for a touchdown. This made Washington’s deficit still at four points. Close to the end of the second quarter, Cowboys running back Tony Pollard ran up the middle seven yards for the touchdown. Cowboys’ kicker Brandon Audrey would miss the extra point attempt, which would make Dallas walk away with a 20-10 lead going into halftime.

There would be no score changes during the third quarter. In the fourth, however, Audrey kicked a 52-yard field goal attempt, making it a 23-10 ballgame. With ten and a half minutes remaining in the game, Prescott threw a fifteen-yard touchdown to CeeDee Lamb, and then the Cowboys successfully converted a two-point conversion making it a 31-10 game. With six minutes left, Dak threw another touchdown pass this time to receiver KaVontae Turpin for fifteen yards. Dallas pushed their lead to 38-10. With close to four and a half minutes left, Howell threw an interception at the Cowboys' 31-yard line, it was intercepted by cornerback Daron Bland who ran 61 yards to score a Cowboys’ defensive touchdown that gave the Commanders no chance for a comeback, or an attempt to even drive down the field.

Dak Prescott finished the game going 22 for 32 with 331 passing yards and four touchdowns. Cowboys’ running back Tony Pollard ran 13 times for 79 yards and a touchdown. Brandin Cooks was the Cowboys' top receiver with four receptions for 72 yards and a touchdown. Commanders’ quarterback Sam Howell went 28 for 44, throwing 300 passing yards and an interception. Washington’s running back Brian Robinson Jr. had fifteen carries for 53 yards, and Curtis Samuel was the team’s top receiver with nine receptions for 100 yards.
