76ers Center on the Rise: A Future NBA Star
There has never been more talent in the NBA than there is right now. The Philadelphia 76ers have several up-and-coming players who are rising to become better than ever. The team has also had some decent anticipation this season, and so far, some of it is being realized. Rookies are often a challenge for teams, but that's not the case for this Philadelphia squad. Rookie Jared McCain is setting a higher bar for rookies.
Rookies usually don’t perform well in their first year, nor do they typically start. It’s not that they lack talent; if you're playing in a competitive league like the NBA, you clearly have something to prove. Rookies often struggle with turnovers and the adjustment to the game. They typically don’t get enough playing time to make a big impact. McCain, however, has proven that he has what it takes to succeed on the 76ers. He continues to impress, offering more to the team with each game, and fans have been thrilled to see him in action.
McCain continues to emerge from every game with something new. Over his last four games, he has averaged 25.5 points and has shot a solid 46 percent, one of the best performances by a rookie in recent years. He’s already ranked among the league's top scorers, providing Philadelphia with a much-needed boost at this point in the season. In last night's game against the undefeated Cleveland Cavaliers, McCain carried the team with an outstanding performance. He was relentless in running up and down the court, finishing with 34 points and 10 assists. He shot 12-of-26 from the field and six-of-13 from three-point range. Despite the team's tough loss, McCain played exceptionally well and was the playmaker of the game.
Head coach Nick Nurse is pleased with this rookie star's progress for the team. Despite the 76ers' losses, McCain continues to bring the heat. Rookies don’t often get to play like this. He came straight out of Duke, where he was a standout for his play. It would be impressive if McCain moved up to the NBA elite. The team already has a “big three” with Paul George, Joel Embiid, and Tyrese Maxey, all of whom have yet to play together. However, that doesn’t mean McCain can’t join them and be part of it. He fits perfectly alongside Embiid when he gets on the court.
There’s still time for him to cool off and become just another rookie. However, with the way he’s been performing, it’s doubtful that will happen anytime soon. Many believe he’ll be the next star of the 76ers, and fans hope he stays rather than landing elsewhere in the NBA next season. For now, fans and everyone else will continue to watch him play his heart out, doing what he does best, scoring those hoops.
