Another Tournament, Another Scheffler Victory: Scottie Dominates Hero World Challenge

Another tournament, another masterclass by Scottie Scheffler. The number one player in the world has continued to dominate over the past year as this win cements his ninth of the year. Scheffler finished an outstanding 25 under par, a score that beat out competitor and friend of Scheffler’s Tom Kim by six strokes. Scottie finished the fourth round earlier today with an absurd bogey-free 63 that ended up sealing the tournament by the 15th hole.

Scottie didn’t start the day in the lead, however. Justin Thomas led at -17, but that quickly diminished after Thomas even par front nine while Scheffler went four under. From there, the Scottie effect that has only been resonant with Tiger Woods came into effect, as the rest of the field besides Scheffler collapsed while Scottie went five under on his back nine, including a perfectly played 18th to seal the tournament. Scheffler has now won a staggering 63,228,357 in 2024, including the million he earned from this win.

The main concern for Scottie was his changed putting grip, but that didn’t seem to change his game at all, and if it did, it was for the better. His sanctioned claw grip has improved his putting as he led the week when it came to both putts inside 10 feet and lag-putting. The now back-to-back champion of the Hero World Tour makes him just the third golfer to achieve such a feat, joining the likes of tournament host Tiger Woods. PGA competitor Max Homa even stated that Scottie “Hopefully some sleepless nights with a newborn will bring him down a little.” Scottie’s dominance hasn’t stopped at any part of the year, from the Masters to a golf medal, Scheffler has always been in contention, and going into next year, the same can be expected.

The next time we will see Scottie will be a week from Tuesday on December 17th when he and Rory McIlroy take on Brooks Koepka and Bryson DeChambeau in Las Vegas for a match type of community event. Don’t be surprised if Scottie dominates that too though, as his competitiveness and drive to win have put his game at such a level people have started to compare it to the best of all time in Tiger Woods.
