Browns Back-up Quarterback Turned Starter Steps Up in Week Eight Win over the Ravens

NFL

The Cleveland Browns won a thrilling 29-24 game against the Baltimore Ravens on Sunday afternoon. The Browns snapped a five-game losing streak. After Deshaun Watson went down for the season, Jameis Winston made his season debut, going for three touchdowns and 334 passing yards. Lamar Jackson scored two touchdowns and passed for 289 yards.

By halftime, the Ravens held a 10-6 lead. However, Cleveland outscored Baltimore 14-7 in the third, to make it a 20-17 Browns lead. With the Browns up 23-17, late in the fourth quarter, Jackson found Zay Flowers down the right sideline to the Browns’ two-yard line. Derrick Henry punched in a short touchdown to take a 24-23 lead with two and a half minutes to play. Winston responded with a pair of passes for first downs to Elijah Moore and Jerry Jeudy to get the Browns into enemy territory. Kyle Hamilton had a potential game-ending interception and dropped it, keeping Cleveland’s hopes alive.

Wyatt Teller was called for a false start that pushed Cleveland out of field goal range down one. As Winston dropped back to pass, he found Cedric Tillman wide-open downfield for the go-ahead touchdown. Jackson led the Ravens down to the Browns’ 24-yard line in the final seconds. The Browns' secondary held serve and denied the Ravens any miracle. Cleveland moves to 2-6 on the season and the Ravens drop to 5-3. Next week, Cleveland will take on the Los Angeles Chargers while the Ravens face the Denver Broncos at home.
