Lions Traumatize Titans
The story of David and Goliath is a hopeful tale about a shepherd beating a giant in a fight. It gives hope to the underdogs of the world. The real world is not as hopeful. In Week Eight of the 2024 season, the Detroit Lions faced off against the Tennessee Titans. The Detroit Lions went into the game 5-1 and the Titans went into the game 1-5. Seemingly everyone thought that the Lions would win the game. They were right.
First Half
The Titans started out strong. They were matching the Lions every time they scored. With 12:51 left in the second half, it was a close game. It was 14-14. However, the Lions started pulling away. From the seven-yard line on a play-action pass, Brock Wright caught his first touchdown, making the score 21-14. The Titans then received the kickoff. Then Kerby Joseph intercepted Mason Rudolph and the Lions were set up to score again. The Lions moved the ball down the field, where Jared Goff found Amon-Ra St. Brown for a one-yard touchdown pass on the left. The score was now 28-14. The Titans got the ball and punted it again. Then the Lions brought the ball downfield again. In one of the most well-executed trick plays of the season, Jared Goff pitched the ball to David Montgomery on the right. Then David Montgomery passed the ball to Sam LaPorta who was in the end zone. The score was now 35-14 and it was halftime.
Second Half
The Lions came back on the field with their foot still on the pedal. On a Titans punt, Lions returner, Kalif Raymond, used his speed to take the ball 90 yards back to the endzone. The score was then 42-14. The Titans then got the ball. Then the Titans fumbled and the Lions recovered the football. The Lions moved the ball down the field once again. Then Jared Goff passed it to Kalif Raymond on the right for a seven-yard touchdown. The score was now 49-14. The Lions finally gave one last finishing blow with a field goal, making the final score 52-14.
The underdog did not beat the giant in this tale. The Lions dominated the Titans from the second quarter to the end of the game. Seemingly everyone thought that the Lions would win. They were right. The Lions have gone from being the underdogs to becoming the Goliath of the NFL. They will need to continue to play dominant football to keep that title.
