Browns Six-Time Pro Bowl Defensive End Requests Trade

NFL

There have been a ton of questions over Myles Garrett's future in Cleveland with the Browns. Things are about to get even more shaken up in the NFL. As of today, it was announced that Garrett has requested a trade from the team. He has made the decision to move elsewhere prior to the 2025 NFL season. Myles feels that with his talent, he cannot spend precious years of his career where he’s recording 14 sacks a season on a 3-14 franchise. The six-time Pro Bowl defensive end stats have been a really valuable asset to the Browns team and he wants to go and play for a team that actually will win and can be Super Bowl-bound next season.

Garrett, at the age of 29, is coming off of his seventh straight double-digit season. He has also earned five straight Pro Bowl bids, two career first-team All-Pro honors, and he is the reigning AP NFL Defensive Player of the Year. The six-time Pro Bowl defensive end has been the stronghold that Cleveland needed and has had for a while. He has been a true player in Cleveland and has brought the heat every single time they have put him onto the field.

Cleveland’s management had no intentions of trading Garrett away any time soon. The Browns were even contemplating not giving him up if they were offered first and second-round picks by another team in the league. They had actually planned on giving the 29-year-old an extension to his current contract that was originally signed in 2020 for a $125 million extension. He only has two years left on this deal. Garrett is also due for a five-million-dollar roster bonus deal on the fifth day of the new season on March 16th. His salary cap hits $19.7 million and $20.4 million in both 2025 and 2026.

The Browns have been really competitive while Garrett has been running in Cleveland. They have made the postseason twice in the defensive end’s tenure. Things went south for them last season when Cleveland dropped to a 3-14 record even with Garrett having 22 tackles and 14 sacks in total for the season. It just isn’t working for him anymore and he is ready for the next big thing. Cleveland is going to lose something really great for next season. Hopefully, they could pick up someone in the future who is just as good.
